The Hochalpines Institut Ftan is a boarding school at Chalchera in Ftan, a village above Scuol in the Lower Engadine. Its origins go back to 1793. It teaches the upper-secondary years and offers two exit routes: the Swiss Matura and the English National Curriculum with IGCSE and A-Levels. Teaching is in German and English; the surrounding Lower Engadine is Romansh-speaking. Around 80 students board. The school runs a sports academy for student athletes and builds outdoor and experiential learning into the timetable. It is part of the Education in Motion group of schools.
