The Montessori-Schule Luzern was founded on 13 August 1975 by Josef and Catherine Keller as a small Kinderhaus on Murbacherstrasse, and marks fifty years in 2025. A primary school followed in 1987, opening at Horw with six first-graders, and a secondary level in 2000; the school now sits at Abendweg in Lucerne, in the former Institut St. Agnes. Children learn in mixed-age groups spanning three year-groups, as the Montessori method intends. English has been taught since 1993 and French from the first school year, alongside German. Fees depend on taxable income and assets, running monthly from about CHF 650 to CHF 1,333 in kindergarten and from CHF 1,213 to CHF 2,490 at secondary level, with reductions of 20 and 30 per cent for a second and third child. The school is recognised by the canton.
