Externat Catholique des Glacis is a private day school on Rue Munier-Romilly in Geneva, founded in 1927 by François Rossiaud with four pupils and settled since 1936 in a mansion built in 1881. His daughter Lucie directed it until 1980 and left the building to the Roman Catholic Church of Geneva on the condition that it house a school for ever. Around 165 children attend, from kindergarten at three to the eighth primary year, one class per year group and about twenty to a class. The school says it was the first in Geneva to teach German to primary pupils; English is taught from the earliest years and a week of immersion is spent in Germany. The school is Catholic with an ecumenical outlook and invites families to church at Christmas and at the end of the year. It is certified under Swiss School Impulse and belongs to the Geneva and Swiss private-school associations.
