About the School
The Rudolf Steiner Schule Birseck is at Apfelseestrasse in Aesch, in Basel-Landschaft, and was founded in 1977. It stands in the corner where Switzerland, France and Germany meet, close to the Goetheanum at Dornach, and teaches from kindergarten through to Class 12, following Steiner pedagogy across the full school career rather than handing pupils on for the upper years. Around 350 pupils attend daily in its long low building. Teaching is in German, with foreign-language lessons beginning in Class 1. The parental contribution is recalculated each year as between 1.09 and 1.4 per cent of gross family income a month, charged per family rather than per child; the school calls the arrangement solidarity among parents, and its teachers accept partial wage reductions so that families on smaller budgets can attend.
