German Curriculum (Primary & Lower Secondary)
Schools following the German curriculum teach the Elementarbereich (pre-school), the Grundschule (primary) and the Sekundarstufe I, on the programme of a German federal state. Abroad they are supervised by the Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen (ZfA) and inspected under the Bund-Länder-Inspektion, which is what lets pupils transfer into and out of schools in Germany without losing a year. The pathway continues into the Sekundarstufe II and the German International Abitur, recognised as equivalent to the Swiss Matura.
